I am a CDM Co-ordinator as defined in the CDM Regulations 2007 working as CDM Co-ordinator with several assistants on Highways Consultancy and Works Contracts for several local authorities in the South West and Midlands. Under the old Regulations, I was, since conception of the 1994 Regulations, a Designer and Planning Supervisor. I have Construction Health and Safety Risk Management experience on:
- Infrastructure provision (roads, sewers and utilities provision for residential, commercial and industrial developments
- Contaminated land remediation (including marine and land Ground Investigations)
- Trunk road bypasses/junction improvements for Highways Agency (roads, bridges, retaining structures)
- Small industrial/commercial buildings

Murray Thomson is Senior Projects Director with Gordon Murray + Alan Dunlop Architects, one of the leading architectural practices in Scotland. He has over 40 years experience in the profession, and has worked as either architect or Planning Supervisor on a number of the Practice’s multi-award winning projects, including the restoration of Glasgow Central Station, the Spectrum and Sentinel Commercial Office Developments and latterly as CDM co-ordinator on Hazelwood School for Dual Sensory Impaired Children. Both the Sentinel and Hazelwood School were shortlisted for the RIAS Andrew Doolan Award. All of the aforementioned projects have received Scottish Design Awards.
As lead designer on the restoration of Central Station, Murray was instrumental in the Project winning a total of ten National and International Architecture/Construction Industry Awards, including the First National Integrated Transport Award, the British Construction Industry Best Practice Award 2000 and the first joint European Union/Europa Nostra Cultural Heritage Award for Glasgow Central Station ‘for the research and remarkable conservation of an important 19th century train station including important protection measures to the roof’’ – award citation.
Murray has served on the Scotland West Regional Committee of the APS since its inception, fulfilling a number of roles over the years as events co-ordinator, treasurer, deputy chairman and latterly as chairman. He was invited to stand for election to the Executive Committee in 2007 and has served as a Director since August of that year. He is currently fronting APS Awards Initiatives including the APS Student Award Scheme that has now been implemented for the six Scottish Schools of Architecture. |

Nick is one of the founding Directors of APS and was, for a short time, its Managing Director. He is now Technical Adviser to APS, a Member of the Practice Advice Panel and is Editor of the APS Newsletter and publications including the recently published Design Risk Management Guide and the Guide to CDM Co-ordination.
Nick was Director of CPD for the RIAS when the CDM Regulations were first being developed and with four other members of the RIAS established courses on CDM for Designers and in Planning Supervision. They also established The Association of Planning Supervisors as a body to assist those carrying out the new role and provide guidance and set standards for delivery of PS services. Nick has since been involved in the development of the Association especially its transformation into the Association for Project Safety.
Nick was made an Honorary Fellow of APS in 2006 and is an invited member of the Executive and Council. |
