APS CPD Standards

  • Every Full Member is required to gain at least 24 CPD points in the previous year with points credited for various undertakings including attendance at seminars, preparation of seminars, self-certified reading etc. (see Table below).
  • Members will self certify their CPD compliance by declaration at membership renewal.
  • APS will carry out random sample checks of Member CPD activity.  Members who are selected will be required to submit their CPD record which may be further queried by a follow up telephone interview.
  • Although an on-line record scheme eventually will be available, Members should keep their own record or log of CPD activity bearing in mind that they may be required to submit a copy of their record to APS as part of random sampling.
  • On certain issues e.g. the introduction of new regulations which APS deems to be critical to the competence of Members and APS credibility, APS will required all Members to be ‘tested’ possibly by means of an ‘on-line’ Question and Answer paper or open book examination similar to the CDM-C Register transfer examination.  These Practice Development Requirements (PDR) will happen only very occasionally and will be points related/credited accordingly.

What counts for APS CPD

As you will see from the Table (see below), APS recognises basically anything - including CPD that counts for other institutions - that is relevant to the work that a Member carries out that relates to CDM and construction health and safety risk management.

Keeping a record

Keeping a record of your CPD is not intended to be onerous but as you may be required to submit your record as part of random checking it should be in a suitable format with sufficient detail of the 12 months preceding membership renewal.  Although only the individual can decide what CPD is relevant and its value, the details in your record could include the following:

  1. Self-directed CPD with a note of hours, topics and relevance to your work;
  2. APS National events attended and duration;
  3. APS Regional events attended and duration;
  4. APS Convention including Fellows Forum (for Fellows only);
  5. CPD presentations made: duration, topic, relevance etc;
  6. Other relevant courses attended with duration and value.

A template for keeping your CPD record which you may wish to use can be downloaded by clicking the icon below.
