APS Autumn CPD Programme

23rd September 2008- 21st January 2009

Fees and Files: Pricing Your New Workload

We all know that the work of the CDM Co-ordinator goes well beyond that of the Planning Supervisor and that many aspects of these changes can be difficult to assess in terms of involvement and commitment. How do we work out what each new duty involves in terms of time and resources? What are the biggest changes? How much work can “advise and assist” really involve – what could “promptly provide ... to every person ..... information.... relevant to each” really mean in terms of time and resources? Can Files be prepared with less risks and problems?

Assessing all of this is itself an exercise in risk assessment! So what are the biggest workload and resource risks? How do we assess them? How do we try to make sure we don’t miss something costly? How do we reduce our risks to a minimum so that the service offered is appropriate and adequately resourced?

This half-day CPD event tackles some of these issues head–on using the latest APS information survey information and the experience of CDM-C who has been involved in developing procedures to assess these issues on current projects and bids for projects.

Workshops: Working in small groups delegates will be presented with a range of project and procurement scenarios for which they will be asked to develop assessments of fees and resources that would be appropriate for delivery of an effective CDM Co-ordination service.

With two opportunities to question and discuss the presentations and the workshops conclusions and feedback the afternoon provides a substantial opportunity for learn from speakers and from other delegates – so widening experience and knowledge along the way and enabling those who attend to leave with a better chance of properly assessing their commitments and rewards as CDM Co-ordinators.

These events have been running accross the UK since September and have been recieving some really positive feedback:

“A key event in assisting me to understand the CDMC fee compilation rates and application to various project types”

“Shone some light on a dark subject”

“Addressed issues commonly dealt with on a daily basis”

“Very useful event and interesting discussions on fees, it was defiantly relevant. Its also good to compare how we all charge”
