APS Registered Member, Mark Starling reaches Magnetic North Pole!

Mark Starling, Safety, Health and Environmental Manager for Kier Partnership Homes, has made it, becoming not only the first APS Member we know of to reach the Magnetic North Pole but also part of the first all British team to attempt the pole completely unsupported.  Mark skied and walked a distance of 360 nautical miles from Resolute Bay in Canada to the Magnetic Pole through one of the harshest environments in the world.

New Home Builders Federation and Utilities Code of Conduct Agreement.

This document has been agreed, within the North East England area, between representatives of HBF, CECA (NE), CE-Electric UK, Northern Gas Networks, Northumbrian Water, Open Reach, and Virgin and with the support of the HSE.  This document has been developed as guidance for ensuring required H&S standards are maintained.


The commitment made by all parties refers to both direct employees and any contractors employed to carry out work on their behalf.

HSE agrees proposals for new tower crane regulations

Detailed recommendations for a statutorily-based tower crane register have been agreed today (25 November) by the HSE Board following a three-month public consultation.  These details will now be put to Ministers for approval. HSE received 100 responses; from trades unions, construction contractors and other stakeholders.
