Event News:

Our first CPD event of the season started with an informative and detailed account of the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 by David Anderson from the legal firm Shepperd and Wedderburn. The presentation highlighted the demand for change, the specifics of the Act including penalities, the likely implications of the new law, and the practical steps that management should take. The presentation was followed by a question and answer session and our thanks go to David for both his time and his legal mind in competently answering our questions!

This was then followed by Philip Baker who presented his Presidential Update for our members which not only gave us a re-cap on where APS started but through to present day including membership categories, HSE intervention and statistics, the Registered Practice Scheme etc but also an insight into the relationships APS has with various committees and organisations including the CIC, ODA and ISHCCO (International Safety and Health Construction Coordinators Organisation). Again, our thanks to Philip for his time and question answer session which re-focused us on many of the services that APS provide and also the publications that are available from APS.

Our next event is in November and features our former deputy Chairman, CPD co-ordinator Allan Cumming (who has also served on the committee since APS first started!)  Allan will be discussing “How green is your wallet? Thermal mass and renewable energy”. The event is on 3rd- November, Napier University Merchiston Campus 6.30 for 7pm.
